Bridge House Bed and Breakfast is owned and operated by William (the one with a beard) and Fiona (the one without) McNicol. Originally built as a bank and bank manager's house, Bridge House has been transformed many times over the years. At various times, parts of the building have been used a bank, saddlers, hardware store. We bought the house in 2000 and then bought the redundant shop next door. This was still known as McConkie's - the hardware store which had operated there for many years. McConkie's had a reputation as a fabulous place where anything could be got, no matter how obscure. Time had moved on however, and the shop had been empty for many years by the time we arrived on the scene. After giving a large fortune to local builders, the two premises were put together and brought into the 21st century. This was fairly stressful for all involved, but the end result was worth it. Dollar Civic Trust, guardians of the built environment in Dollar, kindly awarded us 'Best Restoration' for the improvements made. The clock on the corner of the building which had stood still through the Munich Crisis, WWII, and the post war years, now ticks proudly on. William worked as a software engineer for many years before down shifting (or right shifting as he would have it) to spend more time with his family. Fiona works full time as a secondary school teacher. We have been offering Bed and Breakfast since 2006. |
